While this is not new, I thought I’d try my hand at some alternate universe.  In this universe Magic is real, and the American Civil War is about the slavery of elementals with the slavery of Africans having been resolved with the Missouri Compromise. Lyndasty looked at the sheer expanse of snow on the ground, and wondered how people did it.  Feran did not mind the snow.  He found it cold and watery which was normal for him.  He liked to swim but preferred the water to be a bit more tepid that this frozen stuff.
